Portrait July 2026: Portrait No. 3
Relection
Love isn’t just a state of being between two individuals. It can expand beyond a moment and form a growing network of intertwined roots and verdant leaflings.
A first girl’s trip between Allison, Pamela, and Julia grew into a new form of connection with each other. Embedded in this moment is the love that expanded beyond that instant. Allison’s family now plans an annual trip for the women in the family, which has grown over the years. I’m honored to take on a project flourishing with joy.
Shared with permission. Thank you for your trust Allison.

From left to right: Pamela, Allison, Julia.
From Allison:
”This is a photo the 3 of us took in 2021. It’s the first time I ever really had alone time with Pamela… …and it’s the first adult girls trip I took with my mom. We had such a great time that it started an annual trip that keeps expanding to include more women in our family.”

Every July, I create a small collection of original portrait studies in gouache. These intimate 4 × 6 paintings allow me to explore new faces, experiment with color and light, and celebrate the people behind each. Rather than accepting commissions for these pieces, I invite applications and thoughtfully select a limited number of participants each year.
